Heritage

London Liverpool Street station has a rich history, and we’re committed to preserving its Victorian architecture while making the necessary improvements.

We’ve spent time talking and listening. The plans we have submitted protect Victorian features including the original train shed and the former Great Eastern Hotel. Key heritage features, such as the Grade II listed WWI Memorials, Kindertransport statues, and other historical elements, are being carefully maintained and enhanced.

  • We are protecting and celebrating the station’s unique Victorian features, ensuring they are integrated into the new design

  • The renovation will blend modern amenities with the station’s historical architecture, creating a space that reflects London’s mix of old and new

  • The new office building above the concourse is set back from the Great Eastern Hotel, and its green roof is carefully stepped to respect protected views to St. Pauls

  • The new yellow brick entrances create a visible street presence for the station and its language of arches is reminiscent of other great historic stations in the UK and abroad

  • We understand and appreciate the importance of the 1980s trainshed extension. While parts of this roof would need to be replaced to facilitate the public improvements, the majority is being retained, and the new roof has been carefully designed to reflect the spatial qualities of its predecessor

Network Rail Property has submitted a planning application that is about delivering significant improvements to public infrastructure for a best in class, destination station that celebrates the station’s heritage setting.
