Public Support
Over 1,000 people have registered support for the plans on the City of London’s planning portal – making it one of the most supported planning applications ever submitted to the City of London.
The main reasons people are supporting the plans are:
Improved accessibility
General support for modernisation
Sensitivity to heritage in the design
Better facilities and toilets
Tackling overcrowding
Improvements to passenger flow
Economic growth and job creation
Supporters come from across the UK but are predominantly from the geographical areas that use the rail services into London Liverpool Street including London, Essex and East Anglia.
I use London Liverpool Street every day travelling in and out of London as a commuter who lives in Colchester but works in the city. It is a busy and crowded station and anything that helps it feel less congested and confusing and more inviting is hugely welcome.
Henry, Colchester
Last time I travelled I waited 20 minutes for the lift—about 12 steps for an able-bodied person. This is totally unacceptable.
Antonia, Dartford
I particularly support the integration of heritage features with new infrastructure, as well as the emphasis on sustainability and improved public space.
Jacopo, Croydon
The station is in dire need of modernisation, improved accessibility and an environment befitting of one of the capital’s major transport hubs. The proposed designs are high quality, and the height is appropriate for this location in the city.
Sam, Maidenhead
Redeveloping Liverpool Street would benefit the entire city and should be done.
Emily, Islington
Liverpool Street Station is in real need of an overhaul to cope with current and future passenger numbers. The fact that the improvements would be privately funded makes it even better.
Mario, Southwark
I support sensitively delivered development, which, while protecting our heritage, does not freeze us in aspic and creates the jobs, homes, growth and transport capacity the country so desperately needs.
Matthew, Lambeth
This important transport hub needs redevelopment to ensure that it can cope with passenger numbers in the future, and be a welcoming, efficient railway station for the current times.
Richard, Braintree
The cathedral like entrances are almost Gaudi and will be a very impressive feature arriving into Liverpool Street. The increase in concourse space and improvements to access are also welcome.
Imanol, Southwark
